Registration as a Student
A student enrolled in either a pharmacy degree program or a pharmacy technician diploma program may complete practice experience in PEI if he/she is registered as a student. This applies for both structured and unstructured practice experience. Please note: all documentation must be received by the PEI College of Pharmacists in its original form or a notarized copy unless otherwise stated. Original documents may be brought the PEI College of Pharmacists office to be copied by our staff and then the originals returned to the applicant.

Pharmacy Student Application
Pharmacy Technician Student Application
This application should be completed by CCAPP accredited Pharmacy Technician Program students only. Transition pathway applicants must use their username and password to access the member portal and complete the Pharmacy Technician Student Application on the member home page. If a candidate in the transition pathway has not completed a Pharmacy Technician Candidate Application (Intent to Register), please submit this application first. The Pharmacy Technician Student Application will become available through the member portal.
Proof of Identity
Provide proof of identity with either 1) a valid passport or 2) a birth certificate or Canadian Citizenship certificate and a piece of photo identification.
Criminal Record Check
Submit results of a criminal record background check with a vulnerable sector check that has been completed within one year prior to application. See Criminal Record Checks for more details.
Letters of Standing
Applicants are required to submit a letter of standing from any and all regulatory bodies for which they held a registration. Please contact each regulatory body to request that the PEI College of Pharmacists letter of standing form be completed and forwarded directly to the PEI College of Pharmacists office.
Professional Liability Insurance
Submit proof of personal professional liability insurance in accordance with section 21 of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Profession Regulations.
Enrollment in a Pharmacy or Pharmacy Technician Program
Provide proof of enrolment in a pharmacy degree program for pharmacy student applicants and a pharmacy technician diploma program for pharmacy technician applicants. This may be in the form of a letter from the educational institution where the applicant is enrolled or current transcripts.
Preceptor/Site Approval
Students are required to have a site and preceptor to supervise any practice experience. Both the preceptor and site must be approved by the PEI College of Pharmacists prior to the commencement of any practice experience. This includes practice sites assigned to the student by their educational institution as part of their program. The preceptor/site approval form can be found on the member home page on the PEI College of Pharmacists website. After the student application is submitted, applicants are directed to log into the member profile with the username and password created within the student application and complete the preceptor/site approval form. Once the application has been reviewed and approved by the College, both the preceptor and student will be notified.
A new preceptor/site approval form must be submitted to and approved by the PEI College of Pharmacists each time a student changes to a new preceptor or site.

Renewal
The student registration year runs annually from September 15. Students are required to renew their registration if they are completing either structured or unstructured time service in PEI. Student renewals are completed by logging into the member portal on the home page of the PEI College of Pharmacists website and selecting the renew membership button. Upon renewal, students are required to provide the following:
1. Proof of current personal professional liability insurance
2. Proof of enrollment in their program
3. Preceptor/site approval (completed in the member portal)
4. Renewal fee of $50.00
Once all required documentation and fees have been submitted to the PEI College of Pharmacists office, students will receive a confirmation email confirming their registration renewal. Students must not begin any practice experience prior to receiving the confirmation of registration enrollment.
Practice Experience
Pharmacists
The practice experience requirements for registration as a pharmacist in PEI are as follows:
1. Structured practice experience program completed as part of the pharmacy degree program and
2. 280 hours of unstructured practice experience as a registered pharmacy student, and
3. 280 hours of structured practice experience completed as a post-graduate intern (see Internship).
Practice Experience hours completed outside of the pharmacy degree program must be completed at a minimum of 25 hours per week or to a maximum of 40 hours per week. The 280 hours of unstructured practice experience may be completed in another province and transferred to the PEI College of Pharmacists upon registration as a pharmacist. The 280 hours of structured practice experience completed as an intern must be completed in PEI.
Unstructured practice experience completed by a student in PEI must be recorded by the student through the Student Unstructured Time Service Form which can found online in the member profile of the PEI College of Pharmacists website.
Pharmacy Technicians
The practice experience requirements for registration as a pharmacy technician in PEI are as follows:
1. Structured practice experience program completed as part of the pharmacy technician program, and
2. Completion of 280 hours of postgraduate practice experience as a registered pharmacy technician student.
Pharmacy technician students may contact the PEI College of Pharmacists for registration to complete the postgraduate Structured Practice Experience Program.
